Tea Baggers should voluntarily stay off the Web
Who, or better yet, WHAT invented the Internet? It was "Big Government!" The Pentagon's DARPA in fact. That's a kick in the pants for the "Anti-Government" crowd! I don't like the Pentagon, but the Repubs who rail against "Government interference in our lives" (and there's lots of examples of official meddling that I hate) ought to get the hell off the World Wide Web, if they really want to stick to their principles. Those who blame Washington for their every qualm should get the hell off the Net! This applies especially to Ron Paul and his Zombies. http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Who_invented_the_Internet
Mutt Romney
Better Barry O'Bomber in November, even, than ANY of those Retrograde Republican Rectal Rejects! At least Obama, the cool, collected "Vulcan," isn't a genuine psychopath, like every single GOP candidate. Actually, though, Mitt Romney may not be certifiably INSANE... But he tortures dogs, likes to fire workers and believes Corporations are People. Small wonder; if I had a $250 million fortune, acquired during my corporate raider days, I'd probably support the bizarre concept of Corporate Personhood, too. But I'm writing-in Bernie Sanders, if no better candidate appears between now and election day.
Al Franken's a funny guy.
I don't always agree with Al Franken. I don't have to. This is the funniest book I've read all year, though dated. And it's instructive for brainstorming good ways to refute the lies of the Right. Or is that "Refudiate," as it's written in Palinese? http://books.google.com/books?id=igqMIP7OjrAC&printsec=frontcover&dq=al+franken+LIES+a+fair+and+balanced+look&hl=en&sa=X&ei=luJLT_yWBY3DsQKxiOjqCA&ved=0CDgQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=al%20franken%20LIES%20a%20fair%20and%20balanced%20look&f=false

Where the hell is Winter?
This must be the Weirdest Wisconsin Winter EVER. The meteorologists forecast 40 degrees Fahrenheit - which is already ten degrees above normal for Feb. Then, day after day, the high temperature ends up being oh, say 48 F. The trees are confused; they send out little budlets too early. The birds are flying backwards, then forwards, then back again. Ice fishers plunge through the dangerously thin layer. It's one for the record books, or at least it was in January. Probably a big warm repeat for this month too. Well, nice to know that Human-caused Climate Change is a massive hoax and we can all go about our business. Me? I'm investing my savings in an outdoor Palm Tree plantation we're starting up in Green Bay.
More griping about Ron Paul
I object to the following: 1. Ron Paul voted against a ban on lead in children's toys. 2. Paul voted NO on modifying bankruptcy rules to avoid mortgage foreclosures. 3. Paul voted NO on monitoring TARP funds to ensure more mortgage relief. 4. He Voted NO on tax incentives to renewable energy. 5. Voted against ending subsidies to oil companies. 6. Voted against equal pay legislation. 7. Voted YES on making the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy permanent. 8. Voted against raising the federal minimum wage to $7.25... and there's plenty more I find odious about Rep. Paul.

Just Say No!
Heroin addicts shoot smack. Cokeheads smoke crack. Alcoholics drink Jack (Daniels.) But Fossil Fuel junkies inject "Frack." Frack, otherwise known as Hydraulic Fracture, which contains literally tons of poisonous substances injected thousands of feet into the earth, in order to extract natural gas out of deep bedrock, is tainting wells in the West and causing more earthquakes in the East. Just say NO to Frack!
The 100 Block of State Street, Madison isn't "knockdown material."
The very idea that the part of that historic block facing Fairchild Street and Overture is "blighted" is a notion one would find in few other cities besides hyper-gentrified Madison. It's disconcerting enough that thriving businesses were eradicated to make way for Overture. The extremely generic, plastic thing Jerome Frautschi and Pleasant Rowland propose to replace 100+ years of history would add insult to injury. Those who care about what makes Madison unique and appealing can only hope the community is successful in preventing Frautschi's proposed architectural abomination from being constructed. I remain hopeful, even in the face of numerous money-minded obstacles to historic preservation Downtown. Madison, let us not keep bulldozing our most attactive historic districts: http://host.madison.com/ct/news/local/govt-and-politics/city-hall/laptop-city-hall-urban-design-tosses-block-project-right-back/article_0aa82f48-589f-11e1-92f8-001871e3ce6c.html?mode=story

The New Deal
As Roosevelt said, he needed the masses to pressure him into doing the right thing. So it was truly indispensable that organized labor fought the Bosses so militantly, especially from 1934-1938. The New Dealers did some great things things ...almost immediately, like Harry Hopkins's disbursement - within about a week of his assuming his post as National Emergency Relief Administrator - of $500 million in relief to the most needy. Some of the most destitute were literally starving. But the New Dealers also did some bad things, like worrying so excessively about budget deficits that they drastically cut back on New Deal spending in 1936, considerably exacerbating the Depression. The New Deal, a decidedly mixed bag that nevertheless alleviated much suffering and saved some lives:
